Engine Guardian temperature monitor.

Engine Guardian is an engine temperature monitor with an audible warning. It provides an additional way to monitor engine temperature on the BMW E36.

Why use an additional temperature monitor?

The stock temperature gauge can provide little time to react to an overheating situation. Engine Guardian uses a separate temperature sensor and an audible alarm to alert the driver when the measured temperature reaches a configured limit.

Features

  • Warm-up notification: Beeps once when the measured temperature reaches a preset operating temperature, letting the driver know when the engine has warmed up.
  • High-temperature warning: Beeps continuously when the measured temperature reaches a preset warning limit, until the button is pressed.
  • Auxiliary fan control: Can be configured to control an auxiliary fan.

Sensor placement

E36 Repair recommends mounting the sensor on the engine block beneath the intake manifold.

Follow the manufacturer's installation instructions for sensor attachment, wiring, and configuration. Consider the sensor's mounting location when choosing the warning temperature.
